Established in April 2005 by the Queensland Government and Golden Casket Lottery Corporation Limited, the Foundation uses interest accrued on unclaimed first division lotto prizes to reinvest in Queensland's future by supporting medical research in Queensland.
The Golden Casket Foundation was officially announced as a key addition to the Queensland Government's Smart State Policy in April 2005. Established to fund worthwhile Queensland-based initiatives, it is envisaged the Golden Casket Foundation will continue to positively impact on the lives of many Queenslanders both now and in the future.
The Foundation represents a partnership between Golden Casket Lottery Corporation Limited and the Queensland Treasury whereby Golden Casket will provide the core funding for grants and Queensland Treasury will administer and manage the Foundation Secretariat through the Office of Gaming Regulation (QOGR).
Funding…
As of 1 January 2005 all interest earned from Queensland's outstanding Powerball $23.2 million prize will be directed towards the Golden Casket Foundation. In addition, all interest from any other current and future unclaimed first division lotto prizes will be directed to the Foundation.
Grant applicants, administration policy and matters of corporate governance are handled by the Golden Casket Foundation Secretariat - www.gcf.qld.gov.au.
For each grant round, the Foundation will undertake a public call for applications and the Golden Casket Committee will seek peer review for applications from leaders in the medical research sector. This will ensure that successful applications are of the highest scientific and ethical standards.
